R. Mayooranathan, an Architect by profession, currently working for an international firm in Dubai,
United Arab Emirates. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Built Environment and a Master’s degree in
Architecture from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. He holds Chartered Memberships in both the Sri
Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and possesses
many years of experience in his field in Sri Lanka as well as in the UAE.
His involvement in Wikipedia started in 2003 since the inception of Tamil Wikipedia. He started his
contributions in Wikipedia by assisting in the localization of the MediaWiki software for Tamil Wiki
Projects. He has gone through almost the initial one year period as the solitary contributor for Tamil
Wikipedia and some of the other sister projects such as Wiktionary. Since the inception, for about 11 ½
years till today, he continues as one of the most active members of the Wiki community. Apart from
starting more than 4000 articles, he also improved many more thousands of articles in Tamil Wikipedia.
He actively participates in discussions and decision making processes related to Tamil Wikipedia
activities.
In 2010 he participated in the annual Wikimania conference held in Poland and presented a paper on
Tamil Wikipedia.
