This type of a thing happened. A friend of mine (German) has an adopted
girl from India. She trevelled for the first time in India. She knew
only German and no Tamil. Looking at her mother who is a German the
Indians often asked her to translate their Tamil (presuming that she
knew Tamil - by her look, ofcourse) to her mother. Naturally, on such
occations both were lost :-)
